New Orleans is a major U.S. port and the largest city in the state of Louisiana. It is the center of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area, the largest metro area in the state.
The city is located in southeastern Louisiana, straddling the Mississippi River.
New Orleans has popular, multicultural and multilingual heritage, cuisine, architecture and music (the cradle of jazz). The city organizes many interesting annual festivals and celebrations (for example Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest-one of the largest music festivals in the nation with crowds of people coming from all around the world to experience music, food, art and crafts) and is often referred to as the most unique city in America.
The metropolitan area is served by the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
