Columbus

Basic information

Columbus is the capital and the largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The city is the county seat of Franklin County. Columbus has over 754 000 residents, while its metropolitan area has the population of over 1 770 000.

White Americans make up65,6 % of Columbus population, African Americans 26,4 %, Hispanics or Latinos 4 %, Asian Americans also 4 %, and the rest of population are mostly American Indians and Pacific Islander Americans.

Columbus is home of two public colleges: The Ohio State University (the largest college campus in the United States) and Columbus State Community College.

The Columbus Metropolitan Library exists since 1873. It has a collection of 3 million items and the system has 22 locations throughout the area. This is one of the most used library systems in the country and, according to Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings and American Libraries magazines, it is among top four U.S. libraries since 1999. when this ranking have started to be published.

It is interesting to mention that Columbus was ranked recently as the 18th best place in the country to find a date for females. The magazine Marie Claire described on that occasion the Columbus men as muscular, gosh-darn-it good guys. Continue reading Columbus
