On Friday headlines in some papers were inspired with the new report from the Office of the Actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services. The issue they are pointing out is encouraging for everyone who has been opposed to the U.S. health care reform.

Earth Day 40^th Anniversary is one of the biggest public events of the year in USA. 40 years after the first Earth Day, it is not just the day. Whole week has been full of celebrations and gatherings, and it is good to hear some response from the White House, too.

How health care reform affects self employment?

One of the biggest problems in self employment is the cost of health care. Independent contractors pay an extra tax. They have to purchase expensive individual health care policies that often provide under-par coverage. Will health care reform solve this problem and make health care coverage more affordable for self employed entrepreneurs?

President Obama acknowledged that the self employed are a “growing part of our population” and emphasized the importance of providing affordable policies for those who have the burden of purchasing their own plans without any employer support. President’s intention to reform health care could provide affordable coverage and more options for health care policies. The proposed plan could even provide a public policy that will require more insurance companies to compete for the business they’ll receive from independent contractors. Insurance is still going to cost money, but the reform could help alleviate some of the cost of maintaining those individual policies.(...)

Culture in general are all the values and practices that one society or group of people accepts, respects and shares. Speaking about one company’s culture, it is defined by the way one firm (with its employer, employees and associates) think, organize and work.

Company culture is very important, because it can make a difference for business. Companies with an adaptive culture that is aligned to their business goals routinely outperform their competitors. To achieve desirable results for your organization, you have to figure out what your culture is, decide what it should be, and move everyone toward the desired culture. Your company’s culture is closely connected with your goals and your business strategy.

There are two things which are relevant for developing the right company culture:

1.  Company culture evolves and changes over time. Each changes in company, such as new employees, could influence company’s culture. New people bring new ideas and it is essential to recognize which of the changes would improve the business and which would estrange the company from its basic goals and values. Also, as the company matures from a start up to a more established company, the company culture will change. As the environment in which the company operates (the laws, regulations, business climate, etc.) changes, the company culture will also change. These kind of changes are natural in one business’ growth and development, and should be accepted and adapt to. Generally, changes could be intended or unintended. However, if one company has established values and defined goals, it will be easier to deal with any kind of changes and threats which the business could meet.

2.  Motivation and understanding are essential for company culture. Employees are equally important for one enterprise’ success. Each worker has its business tactics, experience and his/her relation with work. Employer must try to understand and respect that, while establishing basis of business focus and introducing it to the employees. On the other hand, smart business owner should never underestimate ideas and values of the employees, since many people have many ideas and could develop something really valuable and innovative. The next step is to estimate and choose business values which are in harmony with company’s culture.
